Design

We offer both a curated collection and bespoke services, working closely with clients to craft custom pieces that meet specific needs and design visions.

At Otzi, our designs are driven by a commitment to creating furniture that not only looks right but works well in the real world. We prioritize form and function in equal measure, ensuring that each piece adds, and continues to add, value to its space.

We not only consider how our pieces look when they are first created, but how they will look in decades to come. It is something that many products and pieces fail to consider but it is one of our most fundamental considerations when designing and making our work.

Workshop

Otis Ingrams

Otis Ingrams has been working with leather since 2010. Otzi was born out of Otis’s need to work with his hands and to create work with a permanence and durability, in contrast to the disposability of so many of today’s items. Inspired by William Morris’ sentiment “Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” Otis wanted to make functional yet beautiful pieces that can withstand and be enhanced by the rigours of regular use. Drawn towards leather as a core material not only for the feel and handle of the material and the sheer breadth of design applications it has, but the strong environmental and sustainability credentials it possesses – he founded Otzi in 2013 and began making small leathergoods and bespoke leatherwork for interiors. After years investigating the potential and the possibilities of leather, he published ‘Leatherworks’ in 2017, a craft book offering a step-by-step guide to the basics. In 2018 he was made a QEST scholar with the support of the Leathersellers’ Company.

From a nomadic beginning across London, Otzi is now settled in Norfolk, East Anglia and has developed an ever-growing collection of interior objects and furniture made from leather and hardwood. At Otzi, Otis is supported by a dedicated team of highly trained craftspeople; all with training and experience in their crafts, as well as additional ongoing one on one training and guidance from Otis.

Bespoke and Design Services

Bespoke and Design Services

While Otzi offers a considered collection of core designs, a large part of our work is bespoke. We frequently create custom versions of existing Otzi pieces — adapting dimensions, materials, or details to suit a particular space, brief, or vision. We also welcome fully bespoke commissions. Otis is available as a consultant designer and maker for projects and collaborative design work. Every commission is handled in-house, from concept to prototype to final build. What sets Otzi apart is our rare ability to scale craftsmanship. We can prototype quickly, refine designs with clients, and produce work in fairly large runs without compromising on the detail, material integrity, or traditional techniques that define our studio.

Close working relationships with designers, interior designers, artists, makers and brands help Otzi to create unique and functional pieces. The studio facilitates the making in scalable quantities for private and commercial projects around a strong conviction that everything demands an equally high level of design and craft. At its core Otzi holds a belief in functional, timeless design that showcases honest and beautiful materials. Whether you’re an interior designer, architect, collector or private client, we offer a flexible and highly skilled service grounded in natural materials, quiet design, and long-lasting quality.
