Billy Tannery

An ongoing partnership with Billy Tannery to incorporate their unique materials into Otzi collection pieces.

Billy Tannery have developed a range of goat and wild deer leathers created as a byproduct left by the UK’s meat industry. As part of our mission to put sustainability at the heart of what we do, Otzi worked with them to develop a chefs’ apron out of their vegetable tanned goat skins, tooled to withstand the fierce heat and pace of the professional kitchen. Paired with solid brass and copper hardware and English bridle leather, the aprons are easy to put on and take off, and ergonomically shaped for ease of movement, with solid brass and copper hardware taken from a traditional equestrian foundry in Walsall, England.

We also created a make-at-home, zip pouch-making and phone case kit during the Covid-19 pandemic. This kit included laser-cut leather panels, military grade brass zips, needles and linen thread, alongside a tutorial video. The running stitch technique utilised in the projects allows a quick and decorative stitch that is strong and easily repaired if need be. These kits were also designed to encourage people to start leatherworking and see how the craft can be practiced with only a few simple hand tools.
